Projects

Our foundation works through a number of projects. There are 2 main activities; sterilization and education. In addition, we support three projects on location, Orasje, Sarajevo and Bihac. Below an explanation per project.

Sterilization

Our main activity!
By sterilizing (stray) dogs and cats, the number of offspring grows less rapid! This is the only humane method to stop the growth of the population.
Twice a year we, together with veterinarians from the Netherlands and Bosnia, sterilize as much animals as possible.
Owners can bring their animals for free and animals from shelters and the ones from the street are also helped as much as possible.
This project is fully funded by us. That is why we really desperately need your support!

Education

The children are the future!
With the learning material of Dog's Trust, translated into Bosnian, we visit schools to explain how to deal with animals, that animals deserve respect and the best way to handle the problem with strays.
The children experience horrific things on a daily basis, kittens and puppies being drowned or dogs being shot. We support children by explaining that this is not acceptable or normal. The children help us by listening to our story and telling this story at home with help from the books. We hope that this investment in the future will make a change!

Orasje

After ending our cooperation with the shelter in Tuzla we started supporting the shelter in Orasje. In April 2007 it was the first time we went to this paradise for dogs with a large group of. It should be like this everywhere. Svjetlana wields her scepter here, with love and devotion she takes care of her dogs. She had many setbacks, but she will never give up.

The number of dogs in the shelter doubled since our arrival.

The SDB pays for personnel costs and costs for the care of the dogs. This is mainly financed by the proceeds from adoptions at a distance.
All dogs in this project are living in Orasje and are dogs that have virtually no chance of having a future outside the shelter.
Since the start of our cooperation with Orasje we have build many kennels, placed a fence around the shelter, installed electricity and a lot of dogs from Orasje have found a home in the Netherlands. The big advantage of the dogs in Orasje is that they are accustomed to human contact, Svjetlana knows them very well.
Svjetlana receives the proceeds of the adoption costs when a dog is adopted in the Netherlands. This way they can help other dogs again.

Bihac

Elvira lives in Bihac and has helped us for many years with translations, representing our organization in Bosnia and anything that needs to be done which we can not arrange all the way from the Netherlands.
In Bihac, there are many stray dogs and she sacrifices a lot to help the dogs.
We want to organize a sterilization project in Bihac and try to get the educational going over there.
We hope that we can support a shelter over there within a couple of months, the plans are there already, the only thing that has to be done is getting money from the municipality.

Sarajevo

We have started supporting the shelter in Sarajevo since 2008, compared to Orasje it is a less intensive cooperation.
Goga began with this around 1999 and by cooperation with other organizations she already re-homed over 1,500 dogs. Sarajevo is a big city, has many dogs and cats in the shelter and there is still much to be done to get the animals a comparable quality of life like in Orasje.
We pay the costs for the night guard since there was a frequent burglary.
Furthermore, we occasionally take dogs from the shelter, and of course they receive the contribution from adoption.
There are plans to build more space for the dogs.
The current kennels are very poor, they are 24 hours per day staying in their small kennel and have no contact with other dogs, can not run around and play, something every dog should be able to do!
