Dear All,
It is getting close, April 16th we will travel to Orasje and Zenica to get started!
What our plans are?
Construction work, sterilizations and visit schools! We will cuddle the dogs a lot and absorb everything! We are eager to see the (155!) Dogs in Orasje!
The first few days the neuter-team will be working in Orasje. We will have to start sterilizing all dogs from the shelter. In addition, many people from the villages around Orasje registered for sterilization of their pet (s). That's great, but a bit much. Because we now have 80 animals on the waiting list, which we will never do in two days, even though we have a great team. We therefore will ask Haris to go there again soon in order to help the animals to, he does this in Zenica too, where he is paid by the municipality. For the help around Orasje we will sponsor his work for the time being.
After Orasje the medical team will leave for Zenica. The construction team will stay in Orasje to fix the drainage system and to build additional fields. With this team also Cokkie and Winanda will stay in Orasje to help with the care for the animals. This allows Safet and Sheida to take a few days off to just relax a little.
In Zenica a huge challenge awaits us. The aim is to sterilize 200 dogs and cats! Help us by staying positive so it succeeds! We are optimistic, and perhaps a bit naive, but in this case it seems to us that this is the best attitude. We will just have to perform!
Collecting frenzyUnbelievable! Involved, enthusiastic, pro-active, very flexible, loyal and generous, this is how we can describe our supporters. We collected 100 benches in a very short time. It was like a contest. Some people came with one or two, we were so happy, and then a few people called us to pick up 10 ... ....How about that! We are very grateful, so just a short list of people, and of course we will probably forget a lot of people, not only for collecting the benches, but also for all the other support, so thank you: animal shelter Alkmaar, animal shelter Den Bosch, Jack and his team in Winsum, Dierenthuis Aarle Rixtel, vets who have donated medical equipment, Jumper Zaandam, Marijke Pets Planet Born, SIECA for their support and help with all the printing! It is dangerous to mention persons, and with that forget certain people, anyway, just a few people who collected as much as possible benches, blankets and other things we need in a very short time, Christel, Theo, Astrid, Astrid's colleagues, Lianne, Lianne’s mother, Iris, Cokkie, Xandra, Marianne and Tony, Hilda, Gerda B, Winanda, Tanja, Rob, Heidi, Anne and Han Weustink, Marleen, Henriet, Wolly, Sonja, Ronald and Corina, Eddy and Marijke, Cecile, Bregje, and all volunteers and donors! |
Dog BiscuitsA fun and nice recipe. 3 good reasons to make them: healthy, inexpensive, and the dogs love it. Training chunks: Drain the Tuna (keep the fluid) and mash the Tuna. First add flour, then egg and garlic. Mix well and give it some work, if it is to dry just add some liquid from the tuna. Roll out on baking paper. Make some holes with a fork every 3 to 4 inches. Then bake for 30 minutes in the oven at 150 degrees Celsius. Take out the tray, turn around and let it cool down. If the baking is still soft on the inside just let it stay in the oven, but turn of the oven. Cut it into small easy to bite pieces, you do really need to keep the cookies in small portions in the freezer. There are no preservatives and therefore they are only 2 to 3 days able to keep fresh outside the freezer |

OrasjeIt is not going very well in Orasje. They are running low on food and Svjetlana is having a hard time. Her health is poor, and it is a struggle every day. She has concerns about the food, and a military transport will not happen anymore, all transportation seems to be increasingly difficult and expensive. So we will buy food locally whenever possible. It's all very frustrating, especially for Svjetlana. The mayor seems insensitive to this tragedy, so we will soon plan a meeting with him. He is also responsible for humane policy on stray animals. There was some financial support from the municipality before, but lately it ended up in nothing. That is going nowhere. In April we will sterilize all the dogs, do construction work and install a drainage system, create an additional field make preparations for the trip in September. In addition, Cokkie and Winanda will stay in Orasje all week to help in the shelter, so some employees can relax for a few days. Currently there are over 150 dogs in the shelter. It is packed. To relief them and the shelter we will take a number of dogs to the Netherlands when we return. It is not our 1st priority to bring Bosnian dogs to the Netherlands but adoptions in Bosnia from the shelter are minimal. And there are still dogs being brought to the shelter. To ensure the quality of life for the dogs in the shelter we will take a few of them with us. ZenicaOur first real big project in the field. Last year in April we did sterilize outside of the shelter in Odzak and Orasje, and it was very intense. Can you imagine how it would be in a city like Zenica. The target for Zenica is around 200 animals. A huge number for our medical team, but we hope and keep our fingers crossed that it succeeds. We also hope to visit possible schools and its children to explain how you can treat animals. We will distribute booklets and we have printed beautiful posters with the help of our regular printing company SIECA! We will keep you informed on the results. To successfully carry out our project, we are looking for sponsors who can help us with the financial support for sterilizations. Find out how by sending an email to info@hondenopvang.com. BihacBihac We are still talking with Elvira. We can not report much about our plans, but Bihac remain in focus. We could really use your help! Would you like to make a contribution for the dogs?
