A great idea to fight boredom!

With the cold days, or during a busy period it can happen that your dog starts feeling a little bored.

We have two very nice tips for you!

1. Grab a stack of old towels or some old fabrics.

Hide treats/snacks that your dog likes it between the fabric and make a pile. The dog will soon start sniffing to look for the treats. It is a challenge! Start simple and make it a little more difficult step by step.

2. Another fun way to entertain your dog is hiding a chew.

Put the dog outside of the living room. Pull traces of the chew on the ground and hide it in an easily accessible place, start easy and build up the level of the challenge slowly.

Orasje

With making all the preparations for the trip we also think about the things we can do in Orasje.

Every time it rained, the shelter is a large puddle of mud. It is an unhealthy situation for the dogs, but also annoying for the people who work there, walk through the mud is very hard work, especially if it is every day.

But there are also many other things we want to do outside Orasje, for our other projects, so we need to consider what the advantages and disadvantages are of spending such a large amount. Because we know that the construction of the drainage system will cost about 3000 euro. That is a lot of money. To be continued.

The shelter in Orasje is fully financed by us, employees, care for the dogs and all the equipment is paid by us. This contribution is mostly financed from adoption on a distance. If you want to support a dog from a distance, you will find all information here, it is in dutch, but you can ask for additional info by email, they are all sweet and nice, you might fall for one of the cute snouts like police officer micko, sweet Lisa, or teddy bear Prince, well, the choice is very difficult.

Currently there are 143 dogs in the shelter. Last month 4 dogs were thrown over the fence, a few were tied at the entrance and a couple were just left by people. Most people are not planning to give any money as a contribution, because they consider it the most natural thing in the world. If Svjetlana explains that she does not receive financial support from the community they just laugh at her and then drive away.

The last time Fred and Suze were in the shelter, a woman came with her daughter. She grabbed a dog from the car and held the dog as if it was chemical waste. The dog was scared, felt cold and looked dirty. She had her for three months, but it really was not as fun anymore as when it was a little puppy, so she did not want it anymore.

Suze took over the dog immediately, and the dog crawled into her completely. The dog is now called Zima, which means cold weather, because it was ice cold at that time. It is so sad that such a sweet dog was dumped, had not known a genuine warmth, care and love. But that changes when a dog enters the shelter, as Svjetlana will do everything to give back the dog the feeling of confidence in humans.

On January 28 there are 3 very small pups dumped at the entrance of the shelter. It just seems it does not stop. And of course we are happy that they are brought to the shelter instead of other ways to get rid of the dogs, but it is getting too busy in the shelter.

Zenica

It is truly amazing. The small sterilization campaign was a big success. We hope that these are results that predict an even greater success in April!

In April, we have a large group going to Zenica for the sterilization and education project. We hope to sterilize many dogs and cats from owners. There is a big challenge, and we shall therefore focus on this in the pr-campaign. When the offering of animals with a owners is not enough, we will focus on the stray animals.

Why so many animals with the owner? Because many owners do not have any confidence in Bosnian vets and so they find it safer to ask a Dutch veterinarian for help. A great opportunity we just have to grab with all our paws.

Bihac

Elvira is flooded by stray dogs and puppies. We would like to help her, but then it is necessary to address the policy first.

We have proposed to organize a meeting with the mayor and responsible officials. Only once we are sure no more dogs will be slain, and no stray animals that are sterilized are being re-homed, we can support.

We can sterilize all the dogs in the street, but when they are being re-homed, which of course gives a good feeling, new dog enter the territory and the same problems start over because they have not been sterilized.

In addition, we need a stable cooperation with the local vet, the last time that was not the case.
